On April 7, 2025, Obernolte expressed his firm opposition to what he described as an overreach by the State of California regarding automotive purchases. He stated, "The State of California shouldn’t get to dictate what cars Californians can buy. That’s why I've joined @RepGuthrie, @RepJohnJoyce, and @RepJames to introduce legislation preventing the state from enforcing this unreasonable mandate." He emphasized the significance of protecting consumer choice and American jobs.
Two days later, on April 9, 2025, Obernolte highlighted his engagement with local fire leadership to discuss critical safety concerns. He stated, "I enjoyed meeting with San Bernardino County Fire Chief Dan Munsey and the Western Fire Chiefs Association to discuss issues impacting our publics lands and urban interfaces. Jay Obernolte, born in Chicago in 1970, holds a Bachelor of Science from the California Institute of Technology. He has served in Congress since 2021, following his tenure in the California State Assembly, where he served from 2014-2020. He replaced Paul Cook in Congress and resides in Big Bear Lake.
