Senator Scott Wilk, a Republican representative from Santa Clarita, was honored with the 2024 Artistic License Award by California Lawyers for the Arts (CLA) at their 16th annual event on May 5, 2024. The award acknowledges his persistent advocacy for the arts throughout his political career in Sacramento.

“The benefits of art apply to so many aspects of our lives, but it’s especially valuable for children. From improving fine motor skills, sharpening critical thinking, and teaching the importance of collaboration, the rewards are endless,” Senator Wilk stated. “Too often arts programs don’t get the attention they deserve, which is why I’m proud to advocate for arts funding and programs both in the classroom and in our communities. On top of that, great art just makes the world a better place. It’s an honor to be recognized and receive this award!”

The Artistic License Awards were initiated in 2008 to acknowledge "persons and organizations that have mastered their arts (intended in the broadest possible sense) in extraordinary ways for the communities they serve."

Throughout his tenure, Senator Wilk has actively participated in numerous arts and entertainment issues. He served on the Joint Legislative Committee on the Arts and successfully got Assembly Bill 1680 (AB 1680) signed into law during his time in Assembly. This bill provides an additional layer of security for parents when verifying online casting calls and service providers' credibility.

In 2014, he was Principal Coauthor of California’s Film and Tax credit and led successful legislation in 2018 and 2023 to extend its duration. This tax credit has been crucial in retaining productions within California while ensuring families have access to mortgage-paying jobs close to home.

Previously recognized as a Legislative Arts Star by Californians for the Arts in 2019, Senator Wilk introduced legislation aimed at addressing Ticketmaster's monopoly issue in 2023. He also acknowledged several local arts programs such as Palmdale Academy Charter’s Mariachi Band Program and Music and Kids as Nonprofit of the Quarter.
