Today, a comprehensive report on artificial intelligence was delivered to Speaker Mike Johnson and Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries by the bipartisan House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence. The report includes guiding principles and recommendations aimed at maintaining America's leadership in AI innovation.
Speaker Mike Johnson emphasized the importance of developing a bipartisan vision for AI adoption, stating, "Because advancements in artificial intelligence have the potential to rapidly transform our economy and national security, Leader Jeffries and I established the Bipartisan Task Force on Artificial Intelligence to ensure America continues leading in this strategic arena."
Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries highlighted Congress's role in ensuring safe AI adoption: "The development and safe adoption of artificial intelligence holds great promise to make a positive difference in the lives of the American people... At the same time, we must ensure that appropriate guardrails are in place."
Chairman Jay Obernolte expressed hope that the report will inform Congress about AI's advantages and risks. He stated, "It has been my honor to lead the House AI Task Force... The report details a roadmap for Congress to follow."
Co-Chair Ted Lieu acknowledged the challenges of reaching consensus across party lines but noted their shared vision: "Despite the wide spectrum of political views... we created a report that reflects our shared vision for a future where we protect people and champion American innovation."
The task force was announced in February by Speaker Johnson and Leader Jeffries with members appointed from key committees. The group was jointly led by Chairman Jay Obernolte (R-Ca.) and Co-Chair Ted Lieu (D-Ca.).
