Last Thursday, Sen. Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita) honored Antelope Valley's RefiSnacks as Senate District 21’s Small Business of the Month. Founder Refugio Rodriguez was presented with a California Senate Certificate of Recognition at a ceremony held at Lancaster’s BLVD Farmers Market.

Senator Wilk commended Refugio's resilience, stating, "The fact that Refugio started his small business in the middle of an unprecedented pandemic, a time when small businesses across the state were forced to close their doors, speaks volumes to his ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit. It’s really remarkable."

Refugio Rodriguez, the founder of RefiSnacks, shared his gratitude for the recognition, saying, "Being recognized as Small Business of the Month is a testament to the dedication and perseverance I've poured into my venture. It's a validation that my hard work is being noticed and appreciated."

Established in 2020, RefiSnacks has gained popularity in the Antelope Valley for their vegan chamoy candies, a sweet and tangy treat widely used in Mexico as a dip, sauce, or topping for fruits and candies. Refugio's entrepreneurial journey began during the pandemic when he lost his retail jobs and decided to start his own business while being a full-time college student with aspirations of attending Law School.

The success of RefiSnacks has been evident through its presence at local events like the Antelope Valley Fair and Alfalfa Festival, partnerships with eateries such as Lucky Luke’s and Don Sal Cocina & Cantina, and participation in Lancaster’s BLVD Farmers Market.

Refugio's commitment to both his business and community is highlighted by RefiSnacks' values, which include active collaboration with local nonprofits and small businesses. The company has engaged in various community service initiatives, such as environmental clean-up events, holiday toy drives, and proms for underserved youth.

In response to the recognition, Refugio expressed his gratitude, stating, "Knowing that I inspire other small businesses fuels my passion even more, driving me to continue pushing boundaries and achieving greater heights. It's a humbling honor that reinforces the significance of chasing dreams and never giving up."

The recognition of RefiSnacks as the Small Business of the Month serves as a testament to the dedication, entrepreneurial spirit, and community engagement exemplified by Refugio Rodriguez and his team.
