LUCERNE VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT: Ride in the Rocks 2020 Fundraiser Cancelled

Cancelconcert

Lucerne Valley Unified School District issued the following announcement on Nov. 6.

The year’s Ride in the Rocks fundraiser has been cancelled, according to event director Sarah Alvarado.

“It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce the cancellation of Ride in the Rocks 2020. Please believe me when I say this decision was not an easy one,” Alvarado wrote in a post addressed to “loyal participants, volunteers and sponsors” on the Ride in the Rocks website (rideintherocks.com). “Myself, the committee and our volunteers pour our hearts and souls into this event every year and every year it’s worth it! I could go on and get all sappy, but I want to keep it light.”

Alvarado specifically thank the participants “who have come back year after year,” the community of High Desert mountain riders, and event volunteers. “Without them, the event would not be possible.”

“Last, but definitely not least, thank you to our sponsors,” she said. “The funds you so generously give year after year have helped send hundreds of Lucerne Valley fifth-graders to science camp. This is an experience that they will remember for many years to come.”

The Mitsubishi Cement Corporation Educational Foundation is the main sponsor of the Ride in the Rocks event, which takes riding, running or walking participants through a choice of courses in Lucerne Valley. Funding for the MCC Educational Foundation began with an initial contribution from the Mitsubishi Cement Corporation and continues to grow each year through additional donations from the company, direct donations from the local community, and student-driven fundraising efforts. Ride in the Rocks is the MCCEF’s largest annual fund-raising event.

The MCCEF funds go to student scholarship and teacher mini-grants. The Ride in the Rocks event helps sponsor Lucerne Valley fifth-graders who go to science camp in Big Bear every fall.

Calling 2020 “a rollercoaster of a year,” Alvarado said Ride in the Rocks organizers are using this time as a springboard to plan for Ride in the Rocks 2021. “We’ll come out swingin’ so mark your calendars and save the date November 6, 2021, 9:00 a.m.”

She added that those who have registered for the 2020 event will receive a full refund and those who had discount does will get new codes to us for next year.

Ride in the Rocks is always looking for committee members. If you have a passion for mountain biking or philanthropy and think you’d like to volunteer, please email the Event Director at sarah@rideintherocks.com for more info.
