Rep. Jay Obernolte, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 23rd district, posted several updates on social media this week addressing local events and issues, including the passing of a law enforcement officer, immigration enforcement efforts, and community activities.
On February 1, 2026, Obernolte expressed condolences following the death of a local deputy. In his post he stated: “Heather and I are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Sergeant Grant Ward, a dedicated law enforcement officer who courageously battled cancer.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, daughters, family, and fellow deputies during this heartbreaking time. Sergeant”.
Two days later, on February 3, 2026, Obernolte discussed his recent visit to an immigration facility in California City. He wrote: “I toured the California City ICE Processing Center this week to see firsthand the conditions at the facility and learn more about the work being done there to uphold the rule of law and protect public safety. This facility plays a critical role in enforcing our immigration laws,”.
Later that same day, Obernolte shared his experience attending King of the Hammers alongside San Bernardino County Supervisor Dawn Rowe. He posted: “I enjoyed visiting King of the Hammers alongside San Bernardino County Supervisor Dawn Rowe. We toured Hammertown, met with organizers and participants, and watched the start of several events. King of the Hammers is a major draw for the High Desert, and it wonderful to celebrate”.
Obernolte has represented California’s 23rd District in Congress since 2021 after serving in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2020. Born in Chicago in 1970 and currently residing in Big Bear Lake at age 52, he graduated from California Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1992.
