Rep. Jay Obernolte, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 23rd district since 2021, has used his social media platform to highlight economic and environmental issues affecting his state.
On November 13, 2025, Obernolte posted on X: “According to a new study, California has one of the highest tax burdens in the nation. Unfortunately our state also has the highest poverty rate, the highest rate of homelessness, the worst unemployment, and the lowest adult literacy rate in the country. Paying high taxes should”. He followed this post with a link to additional information: “https://t.co/bX18too1Oq”.
The following day, on November 14, 2025, Obernolte addressed public safety concerns related to severe weather in his district: “The current atmospheric river storm system in our district could cause flooding, strong winds, and debris flow near the burn scars from the recent wildfires. Please stay alert and review the County’s storm guidance and sandbag filling locations at the link below to make sure you”.
Jay Obernolte has served as U.S. Representative for California’s 23rd District since replacing Paul Cook in 2021. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2020. Born in Chicago in 1970 and currently residing in Big Bear Lake, Obernolte holds a Bachelor of Science degree from California Institute of Technology (Caltech), earned in 1992.
