Rep. Jay Obernolte, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 23rd district since 2021, used his social media account on August 12, 2025, to address concerns over legislative transparency and the integrity of election processes.

In a post made at 00:44 UTC, Obernolte referenced past legislative efforts aimed at providing voters with clear information about tax measures. He stated, “I agree with my former colleague John Moorlach. The reason I authored the laws that require tax measures to clearly state the rate, duration, and revenue raised on the ballot is so voters know exactly what they are voting on. AB 699 would roll back that transparency and make it” (August 12, 2025). A follow-up tweet included only a link: “https://t.co/qOLtHnh6h5” (August 12, 2025).

Later in the day at 20:38 UTC, Obernolte addressed concerns regarding electoral fairness by commenting on redistricting practices. He wrote, “Mid-cycle redistricting is a blatantly political act that erodes confidence in our democracy and the fairness of our elections. I joined Fox News to discuss why we must preserve independent redistricting. https://t.co/b86LopAoWa” (August 12, 2025).

Jay Obernolte has represented California’s 23rd congressional district since replacing Paul Cook in 2021 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2020. Born in Chicago in 1970 and currently residing in Big Bear Lake, Obernolte graduated from the California Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1992.
