Rep. Jay Obernolte, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 23rd district since 2021, recently addressed federal spending and deficit concerns in a series of posts on his social media account.
On July 18, 2025, Obernolte wrote, “Washington added $1.6 trillion to the deficit last year alone. That’s why I supported the $9 billion rescissions package this week. Every reduction in spending matters when our debt has surpassed $36 trillion. This is a meaningful step towards reining in reckless federal spending”. The same day, he also shared a link without additional commentary: “https://t.co/wXTN8vTmLU”.
The following day, July 19, Obernolte posted another link with no accompanying text: “https://t.co/GcUDklYq4n”.
Obernolte succeeded Paul Cook as representative for California’s 23rd district in 2021 and previously served in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2020. Born in Chicago in 1970 and currently residing in Big Bear Lake, Obernolte holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), which he earned in 1992.
