Rep. Jay Obernolte, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 23rd district, has been active on social media discussing issues related to law enforcement and Medicaid. A former member of the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2020, Obernolte succeeded Paul Cook in Congress in 2021.
On May 13, 2025, Rep. Obernolte tweeted about National Police Week, urging citizens to honor law enforcement officers. He stated: “Since 1962, our nation has set aside this week to honor the brave men and women of law enforcement who protect and serve our communities. During National Police Week, I encourage everyone to take a moment to recognize the dedication of our officers—especially those serving right”.
In a subsequent tweet on May 15, 2025, he addressed concerns about Medicaid’s future. He wrote: “Medicaid is on an unsustainable trajectory. Today, I supported legislation to strengthen Medicaid and ensure it’s there for the people who depend on it- children, pregnant women, individuals with disabilities, and seniors. We’re securing the future of the program by increasing”.
Later that day on May 15th, Rep. Obernolte commemorated Peace Officers Memorial Day by acknowledging fallen officers: “May 15th marks Peace Officers Memorial Day—a solemn occasion to remember the law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty. This year, 345 names were added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial, each representing a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice.”
Jay Obernolte was born in Chicago in 1970 and graduated from California Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1992. He currently resides in Big Bear Lake.
