On May 7, 2025, Rep. Obernolte addressed a constituent issue involving Social Security and Medicare applications. He tweeted about Melanie from Redlands, who experienced delays after applying for these benefits in January. The congressman stated, “After she contacted my office, we were able to quickly resolve her problem.” He encouraged others needing assistance with federal agencies to visit during mobile office hours or at their main office.
The following day, on May 8, 2025, Rep. Obernolte provided information regarding identification requirements for air travel and access to federal buildings. He reminded followers via Twitter that starting May 7th, individuals would need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or state-issued ID for such activities. Additionally, he mentioned passports as an acceptable form of identification.
In recognition of Military Spouse Appreciation Day on May 9, 2025, Rep. Obernolte took to Twitter to express gratitude towards military spouses. Jay Obernolte was born in Chicago in 1970 and currently resides in Big Bear Lake. He graduated from the California Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1992 before embarking on his political career that began with serving in the California State Assembly from 2014 until joining Congress in 2021.
