Rep. Jay Obernolte, who represents California’s 23rd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on social media this week addressing national defense funding and state infrastructure projects.

On July 24, 2025, Obernolte expressed his support for the latest military appropriations bill, stating: “This week I was proud to support the Fiscal Year 2026 Defense Appropriations Act, which provides critical investments to strengthen our military and support our servicemembers. This bill delivers a well-deserved pay raise, improves housing and health care for military families,”.

The following day, July 25, Obernolte criticized California’s High-Speed Rail project in another post: “California’s High-Speed Rail project is years behind schedule and far over budget, with little to show for the investment. I joined my colleagues in urging the Trump Administration to redirect these funds toward critical infrastructure projects such as Interstate 15, Interstate”.

A third post made on July 26 included only a link without additional commentary: “https://t.co/s7zxYnPfeZ”.

Obernolte has served in Congress since 2021 after replacing Paul Cook and previously represented his community in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2020. He was born in Chicago in 1970 and currently resides in Big Bear Lake. Obernolte earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the California Institute of Technology in 1992.
