Rep. Jay Obernolte serves in the U.S. Congress, representing California’s 23rd district since 2021, after succeeding Paul Cook. He recently shared updates about his legislative activities via tweets.
On May 1, 2025, Rep. Obernolte announced that “The House has passed H.J. Res. 88, a resolution I cosponsored to prevent the State of California from banning the sale of gasoline-powered vehicles.” He expressed his belief that “consumers deserve the freedom to choose what vehicle works best for them and their families.”
In another update on May 2, 2025, he conveyed, “I’m honored that the House has passed my resolution, H.J. Res. 89, to block California’s extreme engine emission standards from becoming national policy.” This resolution aims to prevent California’s environmental regulations that target the phase-out of diesel-powered commercial trucks starting in 2027, which he considers to be unreasonable.
On May 3, 2025, Obernolte tweeted about a significant bipartisan legislation, stating, “I’m excited to announce that the bipartisan TAKE IT DOWN Act, of which I am a proud cosponsor, has passed the House and Senate and now heads to the President’s desk.” This act focuses on criminalizing the spread of non-consensual intimate AI imagery, commonly known as “deepfakes.”
Jay Obernolte has a background in engineering with a degree from the California Institute of Technology and resides in Big Bear Lake, California. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1970.
