In recent online communications, Representative Jay Obernolte shared updates on several initiatives and legislative actions. Currently serving California’s 23rd District in the U.S. Congress, Obernolte has focused on issues pertinent to seniors, election integrity, and national security.
On April 16, 2025, Obernolte hosted a virtual town hall event to discuss critical issues for seniors in California’s 23rd District. Key topics included the protection of Social Security and Medicare, veterans’ care improvements, and economic strengthening. He extended gratitude to the participants, stating, “This week I hosted a virtual town hall focused on the issues that matter most to seniors in California’s 23rd District—protecting Social Security and Medicare, improving veterans’ care, and strengthening our economy. Thank you to the thousands who joined me and asked thoughtful”.
On April 18, 2025, he reported his support for the SAVE Act, designed to restrict voter registration in federal elections to American citizens, as a measure to safeguard the integrity of electoral processes. Obernolte emphasized “I voted in support of the SAVE Act to ensure that only American citizens can register to vote in federal elections. Protecting the integrity of our elections is fundamental to preserving our democracy. This commonsense bill is a step toward stronger, more secure elections.”
On the same day, Obernolte chaired a House Research and Technology Subcommittee hearing examining the implications of the DeepSeek artificial intelligence models developed by a Chinese company on U.S. national security and technology sectors. He highlighted these activities with the announcement, “This week I chaired a House Research and Technology Subcommittee hearing on the impact of the Chinese artificial intelligence company DeepSeek. We explored the impact of DeepSeek’s artificial intelligence models on the United States’ national security and technological”.
Obernolte has been serving in the U.S. Congress since 2021, having previously replaced Paul Cook. Before his current role, he was a member of the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2020. Born in Chicago in 1970, Obernolte is an alumnus of the California Institute of Technology, residing in Big Bear Lake.
