Rep. Jay Obernolte, who represents California’s 23rd district in the U.S. Congress, has highlighted recent legislative and technological developments in medicine, energy, and food safety through a series of posts on social media.
On May 2, 2026, Obernolte referenced advancements in artificial intelligence within healthcare: “Artificial Intelligence is already transforming medicine in ways that will save many lives. A new study from the Mayo Clinic concludes that AI can detect pancreatic cancer up to three years earlier than traditional diagnostic methods, identifying tumors while they can still be”.
Two days later, on May 4, 2026, Obernolte discussed his support for geothermal energy legislation: “I was glad to support the Harnessing Energy at Thermal Sources Act when it passed the House. This bill will unlock more of America’s geothermal potential, especially right here in California! By cutting unnecessary federal red tape, we are making it easier to produce reliable,”.
Later that day, Obernolte addressed food safety regulation during a congressional hearing: “This week, I questioned witnesses at a hearing on food safety, focusing on how we can ensure safe, reliable food for every American. A patchwork of different state labeling rules creates confusion for consumers and challenges for producers across state lines. We need clear,”.
Obernolte has served as the representative for California’s 23rd District since replacing Paul Cook in 2021 and previously held office in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2020. Born in Chicago in 1970 and currently residing in Big Bear Lake at age 52, he graduated from the California Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1992.
