On April 20, 2025, Obernolte addressed the rapid pace of innovation in artificial intelligence, emphasizing the need for regulation. He urged Congress to implement “a single unified federal regulatory framework for AI to avoid a complex patchwork of conflicting state laws,” advocating for “clear federal standards and expert guidance.”

On April 22, 2025, the Congressman discussed the staffing crisis in federal correctional facilities managed by the Bureau of Prisons. He shared his involvement in reintroducing the Prison Staffing Reform Act, which is a bipartisan effort aimed at directing the Bureau of Prisons to develop a three-year plan to address and resolve staffing issues. Obernolte, originally from Chicago and born in 1970, currently resides in Big Bear Lake. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the California Institute of Technology, obtained in 1992.
