Rep. Jay Obernolte, who represents California’s 23rd district in the U.S. Congress, recently used his social media platform to address several key issues including the fentanyl crisis, suicide prevention, and scientific innovation.
On September 7, 2025, Obernolte commented on legislative efforts targeting drug abuse: “The fentanyl crisis continues to cause immense harm in our communities. This week I was proud to support the Stop Chinese Fentanyl Act when it passed the House. Protecting our community and saving lives will always be a top priority as I represent you in Congress.”
A day later, he marked Suicide Prevention Month with a message about mental health resources: “September is Suicide Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness, promote early intervention, and strengthen access to critical support services. If you or someone you know is struggling, help is always available through the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting https://t.co/CLTgLrQwZE” (September 8, 2025).
Later that same day, Obernolte highlighted a meeting focused on science policy: “I enjoyed the opportunity to meet with Bill Nye of the Planetary Society. We had a thoughtful conversation about the importance of investing in scientific research, space exploration, and STEM education. I remain committed to advancing policies that support innovation and inspire” (September 8, 2025).
