In recent social media posts, Jay Obernolte, currently serving as a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 23rd district since 2021, addresses several pressing issues ranging from technological legislation to community engagement and health awareness. Obernolte transitioned to Congress after serving in the California State Assembly, representing constituents in various capacities since 2014.
On April 22, Obernolte expressed support for the recently passed TAKE IT DOWN Act. In his tweet, he conveyed a strong stance against the unauthorized creation and distribution of pornographic AI deepfakes, stating, “No one should have to suffer the humiliation of having pornographic AI deepfakes of them created and shared without their consent.” This bill aims to empower victims to have such content removed.
On April 23, Obernolte tweeted about an engagement with Lt Col Mary Goldsmith, acknowledging her role as an Air Force reservist and her participation in the April Reserve Component National Security course. He wrote, “It was a pleasure meeting with Lt Col Mary Goldsmith, an Air Force reservist and Big Bear Lake constituent…I’m grateful for her service and commitment to our national defense.”
On the following day, April 24, Obernolte used his platform to highlight April as Cancer Prevention and Early Detection month. He encouraged advancements in research and treatment, tweeting, “April is Cancer Prevention and Early Detection month, a time to promote research that reduces the risk of cancer while also taking steps to advance cancer treatment.” He emphasized that every effort matters in the fight against cancer.
Jay Obernolte, born in 1970 in Chicago, Illinois, with an academic background from the California Institute of Technology, continues to reside in Big Bear Lake, where he actively engages in various legislative duties.
